2025 U.S. Corn Yield Lowered 1.0 Bushel to 181.0 bu/ac

The 2025 U.S. corn yield was lowered 1.0 bushel this week to 181.0 bu/ac with a neutral to lower bias. The USDA did not release their weekly Crop Progress and Crop Condition report this week due to the government shutdown, but the summer-like weather across the Midwest is accelerating the crop drydown and early harvesting.

The weather last week was dry across the Midwest except for a few light showers across the far western Corn Belt and temperatures were strongly above normal. The forecast for this week is calling for general dryness across the central, eastern, and southern areas with temperatures remaining above normal.

The current weather pattern will accelerate corn drydown and early corn harvesting. Corn yields continue to be variable depending on how much the corn was impacted by southern rust. We will not know the final corn yield until the harvest is complete, but the storyline of the 2025 U.S. corn crop is going to be the impact from southern rust.

Corn was 18% harvested a week ago and today it is probably 30-35%. Next Monday the corn harvest should accelerate even faster due to the warm and dry weather and the fact that once the soybean harvest is complete, farmers will move on to corn. Given the current weather pattern, it looks like the corn harvest will be faster than average this year.
